As global tourism rapidly recovered after the pandemic, destinations across Vietnam, particularly Danang, faced growing pressure to attract high-quality inbound travelers.

As global tourism rapidly recovered after the pandemic, with Vietnam leading Southeast Asia at 98% of pre-COVID levels in 2024, destinations across the country, particularly Da Nang, faced intensifying pressure to attract high-quality inbound travelers. 

In 2024, Da Nang welcomed nearly 10.9 million visitors overall, including over 4.1 million international arrivals, a 36.3% year-on-year increase and 128% of 2019 figures, surpassing annual targets by 65.8%. This surge marked the first time the city exceeded pre-pandemic volumes, with total tourism revenue reaching 31 trillion VND (about 1.22 billion USD), up 22.1% from 2023.

Pandemic Impact and Recovery Challenges

However, the sector’s “frozen” phase during 2020-2021 underscored its vulnerability: Accommodation establishments plummeted from 825 in 2019 to just 127 in 2020 and 153 in 2021, while available rooms dropped sharply from 37,432 to 6,583 and 7,018 over the same period. Even as recovery accelerated, reaching 6.2 million visitors in 2022, executing international marketing and market survey programs remained hindered by limited resources, operational expertise, and local coordination. These gaps are critical, as they directly impact the credibility and ROI of promotional efforts amid fierce regional competition for premium tourists.

Solution
